A Song Unsung

You can laugh and look away at the sky
But you know even as you’re asking why
That you can’t lose what was never yours
And I’m the song you will leave unsung
The manuscript that will never see the light
Burnt into your chest hiding next to your heart
Laugh in the open and cry behind your bedroom door
Pretend you never loved or even cared
Only to look at me and be immediately read
I know and I see everything inside present and past
There’s no forward and you’re going nowhere fast
Live and carry this quietly to your grave
Regret that you were never brave. – March 31. 2018
